Huron, Lake

Lake, one of the Great Lakes. It lies between Michigan and Ontario. It receives the waters of Lakes Superior and Michigan and discharges them through the Detroit River into Lake Erie. At an early day the water of this lake was discharged by an outlet farther to the eastward. Lake Huron, with Saginaw Bay on the west and Georgian Bay on the east, has a total area of about 22,322 square miles. Its surface is 581 feet above the level of the sea. It lies twenty-one feet below the level of Lake Superior. The greatest depth is about 750 feet.
