Lippincott, Joshua Ballinger

Joshua Ballinger (1816-1886), the leading bookseller and publisher of Philadelphia. He was a native of New Jersey. In 1831 he established himself in the book trade in Philadelphia. In 1836 he founded the house of J. B. Lippincott and Company. Lippincott's Magazine was established in 1868.
