Liturgy

liturjy, an appointed form of public worship. Such forms are given in the missal, breviary, etc., of the Roman Catholic and the Greek Church, and in the English Book of Common Prayer. Services are arranged for such occasions as the holy communion, daily prayer, baptism, confirmation, marriage, penance, visitation, and unction of the sick or dying, the ordination of the clergy, etc. Modern liturgies have been drawn largely from Jewish sources. The book of Psalms and the New Testament have supplied a large amount of liturgical material. See Litany
