Pastoral

a variety of epic poetry, the special province of which is the description of rural life and of homely, peaceful scenes. The pastoral is usually narrative to some degree. It contains little action. It appeals to the gentler emotions. Goldsmith's Deserted Village and Thomson's Seasons are pastoral poems. See Poetry
