Snowdrop

or Galanthus, a small, white, spring-blooming bulb. The dainty flower hangs like the amaryllis, to which the snowdrop is closely related. The heart of the flower consists of a green and white tube, with six tips, "a heart-shaped seal of green." In cultivation the habits of the snowdrop are like those of the lily of the valley. There are numerous species. The common snowdrop is native in the mountains of the Mediterranean region from the Pyrenees to the Caucasus.
