Tale of Two Cities

a novel by Charles Dickens, published in 1859. The scene of the story is laid partly in London and partly in Paris, at the time just preceding and during the French Revolution. In this novel, contrary to his usual custom, Dickens depends more upon character drawing. The story is intensely dramatic, and also contains many fine descriptive passages. It displays less of humor than any other of Dickens' novels.
