a unit of weight in use among the ancients. Both as a measure of weight and as a measure of value the talent differed at different times and in different localities. The Hebrew talent represented about ninety-four pounds advoirdupois and possibly $1,500 in silver. It was divided into 3,000 shekels. The Attic talent is held by scholars to represent fifty-seven pounds troy weight and $1,220 in silver. It was divided into 6,000 drachmae. The Romans had a great talent and a little talent. The former was worth $500 in silver. The other, a fourth less.
