Walloons

a people inhabiting southern and southeastern Belgium, the neighboring parts of France, and a few places in Rhenish Prussia. They are descendants of the ancient Belgae, but they are mixed with Germanic and Roman elements. The Walloon language is considered a dialect of the French. In America the name has been applied inappropriately to the Huguenot settlers in New York.
