Weyman, Stanley John

Stanley John (1855-), an English novelist. He was born at Ludlow, Shropshire, received his education at Oxford, and studied law which he practised for nine or ten years. His literary career began in 1890 with a romance, entitled The House of the Wolf. Other tales followed, but A Gentleman of France, published in 1893, was the first to bring him fame. Later works include Under the Red Robe, The Red Cockade, The Man in Black, and The Castle Inn.
