A Carthaginian soothsayer mentioned by St. issued against the heretics .
Augustine. He would fall into strange ecstacies in which his soul, separated from his body, would travel abroad and find out what was taking place in distant parts. He could read people's inmost thoughts, and discover anything he wished to learn. These wonders were ascribed to the agency of the Devil. St. Augustine also speaks of another case, in which the possessed man was ill of a fever. Though not in a trance, but wide awake, he saw the priest who was coming to visit him while he was yet six leagues away, and told the company assembled round his couch the exact moment when the good man would arrive.
