Boletus
a genus of fungi belonging to the order hymenomycetæ or agaricallæ.
It may be distinguished at a glance from agaricus, by having the under surface of the cap or pileus full of pores, in place of its being divided in a radiated manner, as agaricus is, into lamallæ or gills. Several species, boletus edulis, B. granulatus and B. subtomentosus, are eatable. Other spe ies are poisonous. They grow on the ground or on the trunks of old trees.
