Cabell (JAMES BRANCH an American)

JAMES BRANCH, an American writer, born in Richmond, Va., in 1879. He graduated from William and Mary College in 1898 and for a time worked on the staffs of several newspapers. He was a frequent contributor of short stories to magazines and also wrote verses, essays, and papers on historical and biographical subjects. His CABELL novels include "The Eagle's Shadow" the principal members of the Govern- (1904) ; "The Soul of Melicent" (1913) and "Jurgen" (1919). From 1916 he was historian of the Virginia Society of Colonial Wars, and from 1919 was editor of the Virginia War History Commission.
