Cabell (JAMES LAWRENCE an American)
JAMES LAWRENCE, an American sanitarian, born in Nelson county, Va., Aug. 26, 1813. He was CABELL, JAMES LAWRENCE, an county, Va., Aug. 26, 1813. He was graduated at the University of Pennsylvania, later becoming Professor of Anatomy in Virginia. During the Civil War he had charge of military hospitals for the Confederate Government. He devised measures to check the yellow fever epidemic at Memphis and was president of of the National Board of Health from 1879 till his death, in Overton, Va., Aug. 13, 1889.`
