Carroll (JOHN cousin of Charles)

JOHN, cousin of Charles laration, and died in Baltimore, Nov. 14, in the United States; born in Upper Carr 11, and first Roman Catholic bishop cation at the age of 13 to Flanders. From St. Omer's, where he remained six years, he was transferred to the colleges of Liège and Bruges. He was ordained a priest and became a Jesuit. In 1775 he returned to America, and engaged in the duties of a parish priest. In 1786 he was appointed vicar-general, and settled at Baltimore. In 1790 he was consethe duties of a parish priest. In 1786 he the United States, and returned with the title of Bishop of Baltimore. He founded Georgetown College in 1791. A few years before his death he was created crated, in England, Catholic bishop of the United States, and returned with the title of Bishop of Baltimore. He found- D. C., Dec. 3, 1815.
