Collier (JEREMY an English clergyman)

JEREMY, an English clergyman and political writer; born in 1650. He was educated at Cambridge, and having taken orders became rector of Ampton in Suffolk in 1679. He is chiefly remembered now for his "Short View of the Immorality and Profaneness of the English Stage," a work which effected a reform in the sentiments and language of the theater. He died in 1726.
