Dodge City

a city of Kansas, the county-seat of Ford co. It is on the Arkansas river, and on the Atchison , Topeka and Santa Fé and the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific railroads .

It is the center of an important stock-raising and wheat-growing district. In the seventies it was the chief shipping point for cattle. The division offices and machine shops of the Santa Fe railroad are located here. It is the seat of St. Mary's of the Plains Academy, and has a public library and a United States Land Office and Weather Bureau building.
