DE WITT CLINTON, an American artist, soldier and writer, born in New York City in 1864. He was educated in private schools. He served during the Spanish- American War and on the Mexican border. In 1917 he was appointed colonel of the 7th Infantry of the New York Guard. In the following year he became major in the United States Army and was assigned inspector of the General Staff. He was promoted tor to be colonel and was honorably discharged in 1919. Prior to his discharge from the American Army he acted as observer in the Russian Army during the Russo-Japanese War. During the World War he engaged in special duty at the American Embassy in London.
He was a member of many patriotic societies.
He wrote "A. B. C. of Golf" (1897); "The (1897) "The Journey Book" (1910) "Mobilization of the Armies of Belgium and and England" (1914) "Army and Book" (1917). He was the illustrator of a number of books.
