Florence (City of South Carolina)

a city of South Carolina, The county-seat of Florence co. It is on the Atlantic Coast Line and the Southern Carolina Western railroads .

It is the center of an important agricultural region and has an important trade in tobacco and cotton. Its industries include cottonseed oil mills, railway repair shops, machine shops, lumber mills, etc.

It is the seat of the South Carolina Industrial School and a State agricultural experiment station. Within its borders is a national cemetery. Pop. (1910) 7,- 057; (1920) 10,968.
