a city of South Carolina, the county-seat of Greenwood co. It is on the Seaboard Air Line, the Piedmont and Northern, the Southern, and the Charleston and West Carolina railroads. Its industries include the manufacture of lumber, cottonseed-oil, cotton, spools, bobbins, etc. The city is the seat of the Brewer Normal School for negroes, the Lander Female College, and the Bailey Military Institute.
