Indian Fig
a name given to the Opuntia Tuna and O. ficus-indica, and other species of the cactus family com- INDIAN OCEAN mon in the tropical and sub-tropical countries of America, and now naturalized in Africa, Asia, and southern Europe. Their fruit, which is egg-shaped and from 2 to 3 inches long, is cooling and wholesome, and yields a juice used for coloring confectionery.
