Johnston (SIR HARRY HAMIL- TON)

SIR HARRY HAMIL- TON, an English author and explorer. .

Born in 1858 in London he first traveled in Africa in 1879, and three years later helped to explore the Congo and Portuguese West Africa. In 1884 he headed a scientific expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro, in 1889 explored Lake Nyassa, and in 1900 climbed Mount Ruwenzori.

From 1899 to 1901 he was consul -general and commander in chief of the Uganda protectorate. He is the author of many works of scientific and geographic interest on Africa, and also has recently written an excellent novel entitled "The Gay-Dombeys" (1919). JOHNSTON,
