Key (ELLEN KAROLINA SOFIA a Swedish)

ELLEN (KAROLINA SOFIA), a Swedish writer on social and ethical subjects; born in 1849 in Smalend. She began writing in 1870 by contributing to periodicals on a variety of subjects.

For several years she was a teacher and lecturer at the People's Institute at Stockholm. She lived abroad from 1899 to 1910. She took an active interest in the feminist movement, and her radical ideas of love and marriage created much discussion and much unwarranted abuse.

Her chief works are "The Century of the Child" (1909); "Love and Ethics" (1911); "The Younger Generation (1914).
