Key (FRANCIS SCOTT an American poet)
FRANCIS SCOTT, an American poet; born in Frederick co., Md., Aug. 9, rederick co., Mc., Av are made of Monroe ing, an Daited shipyard Statis United District both with the of (1820) 18, KEY BOARD 1780. He was a lawyer by profession and a brother-in-law of Chief Justice Taney. Being detained on one of the British ships during the bombardment of Fort McHenry, Sept. 14, 1814, he composed the words of "The Star-Spangled Banner." He died in Baltimore, Md., Jan. 11, 1843.
