DE in Passy, France, May 21, 1794. He wrote a great number of novels that showed humor and observation describing Parisian lower class life of his time, and were emphatically realistic. Among the most popular were: "Georgette" (1820); "Gustave" (1821 ); "Monsieur Dupont" (1824); (1824) "Wife, Husband, and Lover" (1829) "The Man with Three Pairs of " (1840); "A Woman with Three Faces" (1859) "The Millionaire" He wrote also popular songs.
He died in Paris, Aug. 29, 1871.
