GOUVERNEUR, American story writer and novelist; born in New York, 1876.

Educated at Yale University, graduating in 1898. Engaged in literary work, contributing stories to magazines, which were collected and published in book form. Has also writthe moving-picture screen. His published works include: "A 1897); "Tom Beauling" (1901); "The Pagan's Progress" (1904); "Ellen ; ling" (1901) ; "Aladdin O'Brien" (1902); and Her Man" (1904); and Other Stories" (1908); "Putting on ); " The Footprint, the Screws" (1909) "Spread Eagle" (1910) "The Voice in the Rice" (1910) (1912); "If You Touch Them They Vanish" (1913) "The In- (1914); "His Daughter" ( 1918); "The Wild Goose" (1919).

MORRIS, SIR LEWIS, an English poet; born in Carmarthen, Wales, in 1833. He was where in 1855 he was graduated firsteducated at Oxford, class in classics, and won the Chancelpracticed law till 1881, then honorary secretary, afterward treasurer, to the University of Wales; in 1877 of Jesus College, Oxford; was knighted in 1895. He wrote: "Songs of Two Worlds" (1872, 1874, and 1875) ; "The Epic of Hades" "; "Idylls and Lyrics," etc. He died Nov. 12, 1907. financier, and a signer of the Declaration American of Independence; born in Lancashire, England, Jan. 20, 1734.
