Morris (GOUVERNEUR an American)

GOUVERNEUR, an American statesman; born in Morrisania, N.

Y., Jan. 31, 1752. He was member of the Continental Congress , 1777-1780; of the committee that drafted the Constitution, 1787; minister to France, 1792-1794; United States Senator from New York, 1800-1803. 1800-1803. He was noted for ability both and political action.

Specimens of his writing can be seen in "Memoirs of Gouverneur Morris" (3 vols. 1832), Annie Cary Morris's "Diary and Letters of Gouverneur Morris" Morris" (2 vols. 1889), etc. He died in Nov. 6, 1816.
