Muck

KARL, German concert and opera director; born at Darmstadt in 1859. Began his professional career at Heidelberg, and attended the Leipsic Conservatory. Made successful début as a pianist in 1880. A conductor at Salzburg and at Prague, 1886-1891. In 1893 was a conductor at the Berlin Opera House, alternating with Richard Strauss.

Appointed conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1906-1908. The German Emperor refusing to extend his leave, he returned to Germany. In 1911 Dr. Muck was again conducting the Boston Symphony Orchestra, but was forced to resign after the United States entered the World War in 1917.
