Satsuma Ware
a fine kind of pottery or semi-porcelain made in Japan, having a felspathic glaze of a light straw color, the surface of which is covered with a net-work of fine cracks. Red and green colors and dulled gold are employed for SATURN decorating the ware, a favorite ornament being the chrysanthemum, and pheasants and other fowls are also frequently introduced. Fine old Satsuma ware is highly esteemed by collectors.
