Sherman (LAWRENCE YATES a United States)

LAWRENCE YATES, a United States Senator from Illinois, born in Miami co., Ohio, in 1858. In the following year his parents removed to Illinois. He was educated in the common schools and studied law at McKendree College. He practiced law in Chicago and from 1886 to 1890 was county judge of McDonough County. From 1897 to 1899 SHERMAN he was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives, and was re-elected in 1900. He was lieutenant-governor of the LAWRENCE YATES SHERMAN State from 1904 to 1908, and in 1909 was elected United States Senator to fill the unexpired term of William Lorimer. He was re-elected in 1914 but declined to stand for re-election in 1920.
