Steubenville
a city and countyseat of Jefferson co., O.; on the Wheeling and Lake Erie, the Pittsburg, Cincinnati, Chicago, and St. Louis, and the Pennsylvania railroads; 43 miles W. of Pittsburgh, Pa. It is near a rich bituminous coal region, and is in the heart of an agricultural section. Here are publi libraries, parks, waterworks, electr lights, high school, National and priva banks, and daily and weekly newspape The city has a large coal industry, STEUBENVILLE manufactories of glass, steel, machinery, pottery, paper, flour, boilers, fire and paving brick, sewer pipe, etc. Pop.
