Story (JOSEPH an American jurist born)
JOSEPH, an American jurist; born in Marblehead, Mass., Sept. 18, 1779. In 1811 he was appointed an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court, and held the office till his death. His works include: "Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States" (1833); "Commentaries on the Conflict of Laws," considered his ablest effort (1834); and "Miscellaneous Writings" (1835). In 1851 his "Life and Letters" was edited by his son, W. W.
Story. He died in Cambridge, Mass., Sept. 10, 1845.
