a city of Virginia, the county seat of Nansemond co. It is on Nansemond co. the Nansemond river, and on the Norriver, and on the Norfolk and Western, the Seaboard Air Line, the Southern, the Atlantic Coast Line, the Norfolk Southern, and the Virginian railroads. Its industries include car works, stove factories, woodworking and lumber mills. It is also an important railroad center. Pop. (1910), 7,008; is also an important Pop. (1910), 7,008; railroad center. (1920) 9,123.
