GEORGE Suggestion plays an important part in almost every field of life, in education, in religion, in art, in law and government, and not least in medicine, where the weakness and submissiveness of the patient on one hand and the confidence felt in the physician on the other are both highly favorable to the ready reception of skillfully introduced suggestions. Hypnotism (q. v.) is simply the extreme case of artificial suggestibility. (See also AUTOSUGGESTION.)
