Tendril

in botany, a curling and twining thread-like process by which one plant clings to another body for the purpose of support. It may be a modification of the midrib, as in the pea; a prolongation of a leaf, as in Nepenthes; or a modification of the inflorescence, as in the vine. They have been divided into stem tendrils and leaf tendrils. Called also cirrhus, and by the old authors capreolus and clavicula.
