Theipval
a village and district near the River Somme, France, which was the scene of much fighting in the recent World War. It began to figure conspicuously in the news during the battle of the Somme in the summer of 1916, when on July 19 a British attack on EIPVAL Germans though an advance was made cessfully counter-attacking on the follownear Theipval. On August 18, 1916, the British again attacked 11 miles between Theipval and Guillemont and captured important positions on Theipval ridge, the Germans unsucattacked along a front of cessfully counter-attacking on the following day. It continued the scene of fighting during the autumn, and on Sept. 26, 1916, was captured by the British.
