GEORGE MAKEPEACE, an American author; born in Washington, D. C., Aug. 27, 1841; was graduated at Yale University in 1861, and at Harvard Law School in 1863. He was United States consul at Nantes, France, in 1866- 1868; and at Bradford, England, in 1868- 1870. His works include: "Glimpses of History" (1865); "Henry the Fifth" (1866); "American Society" (1870); "The Eastern Question" (1877); "Servia and Rumania" (1877); 'Beaconsfield" (1878); "Young Folks' Heroes of History" (1878-1880); "Modern France" (1879); "Men of Mark" (1880); "England and Russia in Asia" (1885); "England in Egypt" (1885); "Literature of the English Language." He died in Brookline, Mass., Aug. 10, 1893.
