Valley Forge
a village in Chester the Philadelphia and Reading railroad; co., Pa., on the Schuylkill river, and on 24 miles W. of Philadelphia. It is noted about 11,000 troops went into winter as the place where Washington with quarters in December , 1777. It was here also that Baron Steuben became inspectorgeneral of the army, and the treaty May 6, 1778. On Oct. 19 , 1901, a monument was here unveiled by the Daughters of the Revolution in memory of the soldiers who died in camp during the winter of 1777-1778.
