a city and countyseat of Walla Walla co., Wash.; on the Walla Walla river, and on the Navigation Company's, the Oregon-Washington and the Northern Pacific railroads; 160 miles E. of The Dalles, Ore. It is the trade center of east central WALLENSTEIN Washington and contiguous parts of Idaho and Oregon. Here are Whitman College (Cong.), St. Vincent's Academy, De La Salle Institute, Fort Walla Walla, a United States military post, United States and State penitentiaries, National and other banks, and several daily and weekly newspapers.
