Wallack (LESTER JOHN an American actor)

LESTER JOHN, an American actor and manager, son of James William Wallack; born in New York, Jan. 1, 1820. He conducted Wallack's Theater, New York City, for 24 years; was identified with the American stage for more than 40 years; and on his retirement in May, 1888, was the recipient of an unequaled dramatic testimonial. He wrote the plays "The Veteran" and "Rosedale." His autobiography, "Memoirs of Fifty Years," was published the year after his death. He died in Stamford, Conn., Sept. 6, 1888.
