Take borax, 2 ounces; gum-arabic, 1 drachm; add hot water (not boiling), 1 quart; stir, and as soon as the ingredients are dissolved add 3 table-spoonfuls strong spirits of camphor. On retiring to rest wet the hair with the above H air Dyes. The numerous preparations vended, under different names, as hair dyes, have generally a basis of lead or silver, and possess a sameness of composition which scarcely occurs, to an equal extent, in any other class of cosmetics. A few, it is true, contain bismuth, crude pyгogallic acid, and certain astringent vegetable juices, as their active ingredients; but these are only occasionally met with in the stores.
