This is an alkaloid contained in nux vomica, and Oxalate of ammonia or potassa is the most delicate test of lime. If the substance under examination be a solid, dissolve it in muriatic some other vegetable substances. Crystalacid, filter, evaporate to dryness, redissolve lizes in small, brilliant, eight-sided crystals, in water, and test as above. All the soluble insoluble in absolute alcohol, and slightly salts of lime tinge the flame of alcohol of an soluble in water. It suffers decomposition orange color, but this may be confounded on fusing, and does not decompose iodic with the color produced by the salts of acid; it may be thus distinguished from morstrontia. phine.
