Terpine
Leave oil of turpentine until 1½ parts of liquid are obtained in the for a long time in contact with a mixture of receiver. This liquid must then be mixed nitric acid and alcohol. Crystals of terpine with an equal bulk of ether, and the mixture form. By boiling an aqueous solution of tersaturated with dry ammoniacal gas; brilliant pine with a small quantity of sulphuric or colorless prismatic crystals will form, which, other acid, terpinole is formed, and may be after washing with ether and drying, are pure separated by distillation. It has the odor of aldehyd-ammonia. It smells like turpentine; melts at 160° Fahr. volatilizes, unchanged, decomposed by exposure to the air; soluble in most menstrua except ether. hyacinths. sulphuric acid with 8 of the strongest nitric
