The Races of the Rowing Year
- There are no lack of events at Cambridge for the enthusiastic oarsman to try his mettle.
Arriving as a freshman, he will enter his name on the college boat club, and will then receive a notice from one of the college captains to appear at a certain hour at the boat-house. There, arrayed in the rowing uniform of his college, he will be placed built, with fixed seats. Forty-three boats. divided into three divisions, take part in them, rowing in three divisions of fifteen each, including the sandwich boat. Every college must be represented by at least one boat, though after that there is no restriction as to the number of boats from any particular college club. The races last four days.
