(I) An instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin, the sounds of which were produced from glass bowls. (2) An instrument consisting of plates of glass struck by hammers. (3) A mixture-stop in the organ.
Harmonici (Gr.) (har-mon-i-kee).
The followers of Aristoxenus, as opposed to the Canonici (ka-non-i-kee), the followers of Pythagoras. The former taught that music was governed by its appeal to the ear, the latter that it was a matter for mathematical and arithmetical study only.
