Madrigal
A word of uncertain origin. A name given to contrapuntal compositions in any number of parts. They differ from the motet only in being written to secular words, generally amatory. This style of composition was cultivated with great success in England in Elizabeth's reign.
Maesta (It.) (mah'-es-ta), con, Maestade (mah'-es-tah-deh), con, Maestevole (mah'es - ta - vo - leh), Maestevolmente (volment-e), Maestosamente (mah'-es-to-sahmen'-teh). All mean the same thing:- Dignified; with dignity.
