2- The Federals entered Atlanta, Georgia. This campaign lasted four months, during which time Sherman fought ten battles, and lost thirty thousand men, The Confederates lost thirty-five thousand. The manufactories, foundries and mills of Atlanta furnished the Confederates with their munitions and supplies and these were now cut off. 19-Sheridan defeated Early at Winchester, and at Fisher's Hill on the 19th, sending him "whirling up the Shenandoah." Sheridan laid the entire valley waste, and made an end of it as a source of further supplies.
