Cope
(1) The top part of a set of flasks (see FLASKS). (2) The brick structure in which the outer surface of a loam-mould is formed. Usually a cope is built to a uniform thickness of one brick lengthwise, and, if necessary, are further strengthened with binding-plates set therein at intervals.
