Lacquers of Various Tints
To 32 ounces of spirits of turpentine add 4 ounces of the best gum-gamboge, to the same quantity of spirits of turpentine add 4 ounces of dragon's-blood, and to 8 ounces of the same spirits add 1 ounce of annotto. The three mixtures, made in separate vessels, should be kept warm, and as much as possible in the sun, for three weeks, at the end of which time they will be fit for use; and any desired tints may be obtained by making a composition from them with such proportions of each liquor as the nature of the colors desired will point out.
