Quicksilver
A name given by the ancients to the metal mercury. See MERCURY. Racks for Cores.--Brackets projecting from the walls of the foundry oven on which to place the cores during the process of drying. There is nothing more detrimental to the business of core-drying than a scarcity of suitably arranged racks along the walls of the oven; the carriage may also be utilized for this purpose in some instances. When this is practicable, large numbers of cores may be conveniently dried simultaneously with the moulds, etc., with which it may be loaded. See OVEN; CARRIAGE.
