Shell-lac
A resinous exudation from the branches of several trees in the tropics. The crude lac is called stick-lac; this is bruised, the fragments of wood removed, and the resin digested in weak carbonate-of-soda solution. The residue is the seed-lac of commerce, which when melted down becomes shell-lac. See RESIN.
